Painted whilst at anchor off Proti Island Greece. Proti is derived from the name Proteus, son of Poseidon. On the island today live a few monks in a small monastery called Panagia, which is shown in this painting. On the cliffs are small troglodyte caves which have soot-blacked ceilings that suggest primordial fires of our ancestors.
